Healthcare Jobs with an Associate’s Degree or Less

Not all professional jobs require a college degree

If you are looking for medical jobs you can get with an associate’s degree or less, you may be in luck. While certain jobs in the field of medicine may require college degrees and higher, there are many skilled professional jobs that can be attainable with an associate’s degree or less.

The American College for Medical Careers in Orlando, Florida, is proud to be training our students for important medical careers and allied health careers. Take a look at some of our offerings and see if they are what you are looking for:

1. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
Most people know a little about sonographers—they are the professionals who take images of the developing baby during a woman’s pregnancy. Sonographers not only image fetuses, but they also take diagnostic images of other parts of the body, such as the abdomen and pelvis, where important organs like your kidneys, liver, and pancreas are located. The ultrasounds produce visual images of organs, tissues, and blood vessels, and provide doctors with crucial information to make a diagnosis.

ACMC offers an associate’s degree program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, as well as a bridge program for students wishing to earn a bachelor’s degree. In this program, you can also choose to specialize in one of two areas: Abdominal Sonography or Obstetric and Gynecologic Sonography. Our program combines online learning with hands-on lab experience—as well as an externship where you get real-world experience. The program can be completed in 18 to 20 months, depending on your background and program selection.

2. Cardiovascular Sonographer
Another major area of sonography is cardiac sonography, where technicians can image the heart, valves, and vessels leading to and from the heart. With heart disease remaining one of the nation’s major health issues, cardiac sonography can make a big difference in patients’ lives. Ultrasound images allow doctors to diagnose heart conditions and get the right treatment for the patients.

ACMC’s Cardiovascular Sonography program combines online and hands-on learning as well as an externship to prepare you with clinical experience before you get on the job market. The program can be completed in 18 to 20 months, depending on your background and program selection. There is also the option of pursuing your bachelor’s degree at ACMC.

3. Dental Assistant
Some jobs don’t even require an associate’s degree. We offer diploma programs that can be completed in as little as one year, such as our Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions program. Dental assistants work alongside dentists and dental hygienists, performing such tasks as preparing patients for procedures, assisting the dentist by passing equipment as needed, taking care of lab procedures, and handling administrative duties. Applying is easy—you just need to have your high school diploma or equivalent (like a GED).

4. Medical Assistant
If you would like to work directly with patients in a doctor’s office or hospital, the field of medical assisting may be a good fit for you. Training to be a medical assistant takes just about a year, and prepares you with clinical skills such as measuring vital signs, administering EKGs, and drawing blood. To apply, you just need your high school diploma or equivalent (like a GED). We also offer an associate’s degree in this field, if you want to go beyond the diploma program.

5. Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
If office is work is more your speed than working with patients, you may want to consider earning a diploma in medical billing and coding. These professionals work behind the scenes in doctors’ offices and hospitals to process insurance claims and make sure reimbursements are made correctly. In about one year’s time, you could gain the skills and knowledge you need for a professional office job like this.

So, if you’re looking for professional jobs that don’t require a four-year college degree, you may want to explore the medical career training programs at ACMC. It’s easy to get started. Just contact us online as soon as you’re ready!
