Get to Know Your ACMC Career Services Team

ACMC career services, american college for medical careers in Orlando FLLearn fun trivia about three staff members who help students with job placement

We thought we’d take an opportunity to get to know the Career Services team at the American College for Medical Careers. These three professionals are there to help you navigate the transition from your professional training program into the externship experience, the job search process, and then into the professional world. Read a bit about each of them—including some fun facts—and you’ll feel like you know them already.

Kimberly Burns, MBA, Director of Career Service, has been at ACMC since mid-April. She says she spends her day “changing lives.” Having grown up in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kim attended Radford High School there. (Her sons both have Hawaiian names: Kainoe’, which means “strong wave,” and Kalani, which means “the heavens.”) Kim then attended Hospital Corpsman class “A” School in Fort Sam Houston, TX, and subsequently Central Texas College and the University of Phoenix. She is currently enrolled at Northcentral University. We asked her a few questions about herself.

Wonder Woman

What is your perfect Sunday?
Going to breakfast with my husband, going to church, and then meeting up with our son’s for a couple of hours to check in with them. Sunday afternoons we reflect on life and just enjoy each other.

Morocco

What’s one thing on your bucket list?
To renew my wedding vows.

What’s your secret talent that nobody knows about?
At the age of 17, I won a Brown Bags to Stardom competition and had the opportunity to become the first female rapper signed to a record label. I declined the offer because it meant leaving Hawaii to move to California.

What do you like about working at ACMC?
I love coaching, mentoring, bonding with, and educating students as they transition to graduate status. The best part for me is graduate placement and witnessing the transformation of a person who may have once believed that working a minimum-wage job for the rest of their life was their reality.

Another new staff member is Jessica Feliciano, a registered medical assistant who joined ACMC in late April. As ACMC’s Externship Coordinator, she spends her day looking for sites to place students as externs. Having grown up in Orlando, Jessica attended Valencia College and Winter Park Campus of Orange Technical College.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A veterinarian.

What was the last movie you went to?
Everything, Everything.

What is your favorite restaurant?

What is your perfect Sunday?
Attending church and then spending time with family.

To go skydiving.

I can sing and paint.

What do you like about working at ACMC?
I love getting to know the students and seeing them grow in the field.

Career Services Advisor America Schenker has been at ACMC for a year and a half, helping graduates find placement in positions related to their training. A New York native, she attended Seminole State College of Florida.

What do you like about working at ACMC?
Seeing people come in to enroll and spending time with them in their journey through school. I like assisting in the process of getting them to graduation and how, once placed, it changes their life.

We hope this make you feel you know your Career Services team a bit better. Perhaps the next time you see them, reach out and tell them something about yourself!
