ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA

Echocardiography schools in Florida prepare students for the high-growth field of sonography through a combination of theory and clinical training. The goal, is to provide students with the high-level skills and educational knowledge they’ll need to earn their national certification and begin their new careers.

At the American College for Medical Careers, students utilize a combination of distance and on-campus learning methods to complete their degree programs. Theory classes, such as anatomy and physiology, organ relationships, disease pathology and the physical characteristics of sound are all taught through the school’s virtual learning environment, which can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Here, students may participate in an interactive virtual classroom, or complete learning activities that reinforces the theoretical concepts they’re learning in class.

The hands-on training takes place in the school laboratory and also at area clinical sites that provide diagnostic imaging services. Through these experiences, students will be able to practice the concepts learned in class, while they develop a deeper understanding of:

  • Scanning techniques and protocols
  • Pathology recognition
  • Patient care

In the beginning, students are supervised carefully as they work with patients in the field. As their experience grows, however, they are able to work more independently.

Programs at Echocardiography Schools

At some echocardiography schools, including the American College for Medical Careers, students have the option of studying diagnostic echocardiography or cardiac echocardiography. The diagnostic program provides students with the training they’ll need to scan many different organ systems and structures, such as the abdomen and pelvic regions. Cardiovascular sonography, on the other hand, specializes in the scanning of the heart and vascular system.

The program you choose, depends on your individual interests and where you hope to work as an ultrasound technician. It’s important to keep in mind that even diagnostic sonographers have the option of specializing as they advance in their careers and develop knowledge of obstetrics, the brain, the vascular system or the abdomen, for example.
