Did you know that not all professional jobs require a college degree? With only a high school diploma or equivalent, you can enroll in a Medical Assistant program at ACMC that can have you ready for the job market in as little as 9 months!

At ACMC, we have four options for becoming a medical assistant, depending on the level of training you want to pursue:

  • Day diploma program: 9 months*
  • Evening diploma program: 16 months
  • Day associate’s program: 17 months
  • Evening associate’s program: 24 months

Becoming a medical assistant can be a very rewarding career. You get the chance to improve your career, to help others, and to work in a professional medical setting. Here are some great reasons for choosing this career field.

1. The job outlook for medical assistants is positive

When choosing a new career field, you will want to make sure that it’s a field that is projected to have jobs well into the future. The Occupational Outlook Handbook provides job growth forecasts for hundreds of occupations. For medical assistants, the handbook predicts: “Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 23 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.” The handbook explains that the growth comes from the aging baby-boom population, who will create an increase in the demand for medical services.

2. It’s a job that doesn’t require a college degree

Do you need to get into the workforce sooner rather than later? While many jobs in the field of healthcare require a full nursing degree or a medical degree, you can become a medical assistant with a much smaller investment of time and money. Most diploma programs can be completed in 9-16 months. Or if you want a little more training, you can opt for an associate’s degree, which can be completed in about 17 to 24 months. Most career training schools offer both day and evening options to help you find something that works with your schedule.

3. Financial aid is available for eligible students

At ACMC, we don’t want financial difficulties to prevent you from attaining your career goals. We have Financial Aid advisors who can help you apply for Federal Student Aid in order to support your education. We can also help you look into other options if you are not eligible for Federal Student Aid.

4. Medical assisting is a good introduction to the field of healthcare

Have you ever noticed how many job ads there are for allied health and healthcare positions? Becoming a medical assistant is one way to get started in this exciting field. Medical assistants are typically entry-level positions, and from there, you can see whether you want to pursue further education, or whether you are happy with the responsibilities of a medical assistant. Some people enjoy the rewards of being a medical assistant for their entire careers. Others decide to explore a nursing degree. Some people discover they prefer administrative work, and strive to become a medical office manager. Whatever the case, becoming a medical assistant can introduce you to the world of healthcare.

5. It’s rewarding to hold a professional position

Becoming a medical assistant is your opportunity to show you have what it takes to be in a highly responsible and professional position. You have a responsibility to your patients and your co-workers, and people will count on you to perform your tasks well. With this responsibility also comes the rewarding feeling that you are helping your patients as a part of a medical team. Without strong medical assistants, a medical team will not operate smoothly and patients will not get the good service they deserve. This is a career where you can feel proud of what you do and give it your best!
