6 Things to Do in Orlando – On a Student’s Budget

Living on a student budget can be tricky. You have to make some decisions about what you can afford to do and what needs to be cut out. Rent and food come first, and by the time it comes to entertainment, most students have to pinch their pennies.

Fortunately for the students at the American College of Medical Careers, the great city of Orlando has a lot of free or low-cost activities to offer its residents. If you are looking for something fun to do on the weekends, without breaking the bank, try these options.

Go to a Park

One of the iconic parks in Orlando is Lake Eola Park. Enjoy views of downtown Orlando, shop at the Orlando Farmer’s Market on Sundays, view an outdoor movie, sit by the fountain, or rent a boat to tour the lake. And don’t miss the evening light show. There’s always something going on at Lake Eola Park!

Explore a flea market

There are several large flea markets in Orlando where you can find bargains or just spend some time browsing. Check out the Central Florida Market and the International Drive Flea Market, both located in Orlando, or drive a short distance to Kissimmee for the 192 Flea Market. There are hundreds of booths at these flea markets, so give yourself a lot of time!

Catch an outdoor movie

Not far from Orlando, at Central Park in Winter Park, FL, free films are shown during Popcorn Flicks in the Park on the second Thursday of each month, subject to weather conditions. Bring a blanket and some snacks, and enjoy watching a movie under the stars!

Go to the Library

The Orlando Public Library has something for everyone. You can visit the library to study, browse the offerings, or just sit in the cool air conditioning while reading a book. There are children’s programs as well as adult programs, such as chess, English as a second language, and technology classes.

Go to a Museum

While some museums have a high admission price during business hours, they might have reduced or free admission in the evenings. For example, the Morse Museum of American Art, known for its collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany artwork, has free admission on Fridays after 4pm from November through April. For those who like modern art, the Mennello Museum of Modern Art has a low admission price of just $4.

Go for a Bike Ride

The Orange County Trail system offers lots to do for bikers and hikers. You can rent a bike and ride it on the West Orange Trail, or choose from a number of free hiking trails. Biking and hiking can be a fun way to get in shape!

We hope these ideas add a little extra fun to your life without being a strain on your wallet. Orlando has so many great things to offer!
